In brief

  • The number of missing teeth, their position and the condition of the remaining teeth guide the thinking.
  • A removable denture, a bridge or an implant-supported restoration may be discussed depending on the situation.
  • No restoration removes the need for regular care.

Understand what is missing

The number of missing teeth, their position and the condition of the remaining teeth guide the thinking. Tell the dentist about any difficulty eating, speaking or wearing a denture. The assessment also checks the gums and the balance of your bite.

Look at several options

A removable denture, a bridge or an implant-supported restoration may be discussed depending on the situation. Ask how each option is cleaned and what stages are involved. Replacing a tooth does not automatically mean an implant.

Plan lasting upkeep

No restoration removes the need for regular care. The denture and the tissues that support it need to be checked. The clinic explains the cleaning routine and the signs that mean you should be examined again.
