In brief

  • The implant body, the abutment and the crown each have a different role.
  • The name of the system, the references and the documents you are given make later follow-up easier.
  • Bone volume, the position of the restoration and chewing forces also matter.

Tell the components apart

The implant body, the abutment and the crown each have a different role. They may be made of different materials. Ask the dentist what is proposed and how the components fit into your treatment plan.

Ask for traceable information

The name of the system, the references and the documents you are given make later follow-up easier. If you are seen elsewhere, this information can be useful. The colour or look of a material in a picture is not enough to judge its quality.

Do not choose on material alone

Bone volume, the position of the restoration and chewing forces also matter. Ask why the material suits your situation and what alternatives exist. No material removes the need for hygiene and check-ups.
