In brief

  • Some people would like a lighter shade to feel more at ease with their smile.
  • The shape of the teeth, their position and existing restorations do not change with whitening.
  • Discuss the shade you want and the limits before you begin.

Put your goal into words

Some people would like a lighter shade to feel more at ease with their smile. Explain what you expect from the treatment. Whitening should not be presented as a sure way to feel better about yourself.

Separate colour from the rest of the smile

The shape of the teeth, their position and existing restorations do not change with whitening. An assessment helps to clarify what can change and what belongs to other options. The result varies depending on where you start.

Choose without pressure

Discuss the shade you want and the limits before you begin. You can ask for explanations or take time to think. A realistic expectation and a suitable protocol are more useful than comparing yourself with a retouched photograph.
