In brief

  • Teeth whitening should be preceded by an examination of the teeth and gums.
  • Tooth sensitivity or gum irritation can occur.
  • Whitening works on natural teeth and does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings.

An assessment before whitening

Teeth whitening should be preceded by an examination of the teeth and gums. A cavity, a crack or existing sensitivity may need to be dealt with before treatment. The strength of the product and how it is used both matter.

Side effects are possible

Tooth sensitivity or gum irritation can occur. The treatment should therefore not be presented as harmless for everyone. Follow the prescribed protocol and tell the professional looking after you about any discomfort.

What whitening does not change

Whitening works on natural teeth and does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. A smile with these restorations needs an overall plan to avoid differences in shade.
