In brief

  • Wherever the treatment takes place, your mouth must be assessed first.
  • At the clinic, the treatment is carried out under direct supervision.
  • Report any irritation or sensitivity rather than increasing the dose or frequency yourself.

The same starting point: the examination

Wherever the treatment takes place, your mouth must be assessed first. The dentist checks the teeth, the gums and any existing restorations. A prescribed home protocol is not the same as freely using a product bought without advice.

Compare how it is organised

At the clinic, the treatment is carried out under direct supervision. At home, trays and wearing instructions may be prescribed. Your availability, your sensitivity and how the product is controlled all form part of the choice discussed with you.

Keep an eye on tolerance

Report any irritation or sensitivity rather than increasing the dose or frequency yourself. Crowns and veneers do not lighten in the same way as natural teeth. Your expectations and any differences in shade should be discussed in advance.
