In brief

  • Veneers can be discussed for certain flaws in shape or shade on visible teeth.
  • Cavities, inflamed gums or heavy biting forces may need treatment first.
  • Whitening, composite or orthodontics can sometimes meet the same goal.

Start from your cosmetic goal

Veneers can be discussed for certain flaws in shape or shade on visible teeth. They are not the automatic answer to every concern about your smile. The examination clarifies what can be corrected and with what constraints.

Check the teeth and the bite

Cavities, inflamed gums or heavy biting forces may need treatment first. The project also looks at alignment and how much enamel is available. A photograph alone is not enough to decide whether veneers are suitable.

Compare before preparing the teeth

Whitening, composite or orthodontics can sometimes meet the same goal. Ask which solutions preserve the most tooth tissue and how upkeep works. Any preparation of the teeth, and the fact that it cannot be undone, should be explained.
