In brief

  • A veneer does not protect the whole tooth from cavities.
  • Do not use your veneers to open packaging or bite hard objects.
  • Difficulty chewing, a rough edge, a crack or a veneer coming loose should be checked.

Clean the teeth and the edges of restorations

A veneer does not protect the whole tooth from cavities. Brush with a fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth as advised. The edges of the restoration and the gums must stay easy to clean.

Avoid using your teeth as a tool

Do not use your veneers to open packaging or bite hard objects. If you clench or grind your teeth, tell the clinic. Protection can be discussed after an examination, rather than chosen without an assessment.

Have any problem checked

Difficulty chewing, a rough edge, a crack or a veneer coming loose should be checked. Do not stick a veneer back on yourself. Check-ups allow the restoration and the health of the teeth beneath it to be reviewed.
