Dental veneers

Anterior ceramic restorations are the essential modality of aesthetic reconstructive dentistry. They are part of an odonthoprosthetic, morphological, biological and optical framework.

These partial restorations are indicated after analysis of the structures before preparation.

Among these, there are bonded peripheral restorations: veneers

The use of preparation guides is essential for tissue preservation. The evolution of techniques and materials allows us to broaden the fields of indication of the processes.

WHAT IS A VENEER ?

It is a thin ceramic film that the practitioner sticks on a tooth to make up for a color or morphology defect or even to close interdental spaces.

It is placed on the "visible" vestibular side of the tooth that has already been prepared.

The veneer, given its thickness, allows light to penetrate the natural tooth.

It is less mutilating than the crown and only affects the visible side of the tooth.

The longevity of a veneer depends on the material and above all on the bonding.

If the indication is correctly placed and the bonding correctly carried out, 90% of the veneers remain intact for a period of 15 years.

This modern concept of aesthetic reconstructive odontology illustrates the constant concern for tissue preservation (periodontal, pulpal, enamel and dentinal).

These preparations must meet general specifications that include respect for surrounding tissues in order to avoid prosthetic overcontours responsible for bad breath and cavities.

The purpose of the veneer is to recreate a smile with pleasing proportions and a harmonious fit.

The communication of aesthetic data to the laboratory is an element of success, which is why a first consultation is important in order to have a successful aesthetic project.

Photos and X-rays are taken during this first visit to ensure that it is the right treatment, then impressions are also taken and sent to the laboratory in order to make a mockup which will be validated later with the patient.

REALIZATION VENEERS

Facets are generally produced in two steps:

First step:
After validation of the aesthetic project based on mockup and resin placed in the mouth, anesthesia is performed. A thin layer not exceeding 0.5 mm is cut from each tooth respecting the anatomy and the tissues.
Impression taking.
Realization of the provisionals with which the patient remains until the next appointment.
The fabrication time of the veneers in the laboratory does not exceed 5 working days.

Second step:
Trying on veneers.

Once the patient has validated his aesthetic project, the bonding is done under anesthesia for maximum comfort.

How to maintain a dental veneer?

The veneers fit naturally with the dentition and are well accepted by the gums, which return to their place in a few days.

They do not require any special maintenance apart from perfect oral hygiene (use of brushes and dental floss, regular scaling, etc.).
