Dental prosthesis

What is a dental prosthesis?

It is a device that aims to restore the damaged tooth or replace missing teeth.

Teeth are a very important part of our physical appearance. If a tooth disappears for one reason or another, we feel very discouraged, and our self-confidence decreases.

There are many types of dentures, for an ordinary person it is difficult to differentiate. But in general all dentures are divided into two main categories, they can be fixed or removable.

Fixed prostheses:

These are prostheses that rest on the teeth that are still present.

They are generally ceramometallic or entirely ceramic: zirconium.

They are glued or sealed.

The crown: it replaces or reconstructs the tooth by resting on its root.

What is a crown for?

A dental crown is used in cosmetic dentistry to cover damaged, devitalized, broken, severely decayed teeth that no longer have enough tooth structure to support a veneer or receive a new filling.

Zirconium crown

The bridge: replaces the missing tooth or teeth by resting on the adjacent teeth or by resting on the implants.

Onley: aims to reconstruct the damaged words of a tooth.

Removable prostheses:

As their name indicates, these prostheses are removed for daily maintenance.

Complete dentures replace all the teeth and rely on the ridges, while partial dentures make use of all the remaining teeth in the mouth to hook and join them.

These partial or complete dentures help to give a new smile and improve the quality of life.

These prostheses are very useful; whether to have a full or partial denture depends on whether you have healthy and stable teeth that we can use. If you have unrecoverable teeth they need to be extracted then an immediate prosthesis would be a better option.

If I have to extract my teeth do I have to be toothless?

The immediate prosthesis is made before the extraction of the teeth which are inserted in the laboratory on the prosthesis. On the day of the tooth extraction, you will receive your prosthesis.

Are these prostheses comfortable?

There is certainly an adaptation period for everyone which begins when wearing dentures. At first patients feel crowded, which takes a little getting used to.

The best option for those who desire greater stability in their dentures is to have dental implants.
